Flights to Albania: Routes, the Airport and Getting In

Getting to Albania is easier than ever. There are short direct flights to Tirana, and the country has adapted to a growing stream of travellers. With a little advance planning you can find cheap tickets, especially outside the peak of summer.

Direct flights and the airport

Tirana International Airport is well connected: low-cost carriers like Wizz Air and Ryanair serve many European cities, and Israeli airlines — El Al, Arkia and Israir — fly direct from Tel Aviv to Tirana in about 3 hours. In summer frequency rises and charter flights are sometimes added. You land at Tirana International Airport (TIA), about 20 minutes north-west of the centre. Compare fares in advance: the price varies dramatically between peak and shoulder seasons.

The Corfu and ferry alternative

If your route centres on the south — Sarandë, Ksamil and the Riviera — it’s worth considering a flight to Corfu (Greece) and a short ferry to Sarandë (about 30–90 minutes, depending on the ferry type). This saves the long drive from Tirana south, and is sometimes cheaper in summer when Corfu flights are plentiful.

Where to stay on arrival

If you land late, it’s convenient to spend the first night near Tirana and start your route the next day. Compare stays in Tirana in advance, around the centre or the Blloku district. From there you continue along your itinerary.
